The font I have chosen to analyze is Courier.
The strength of the Courier font is in its ability to provide a high level of readability despite being a Serif font. This inspires some level of elegance while still providing a focus on content instead of reducing the legibility of the document.
Because of the history behind this font as a government standard, seeing a document written in Courier often inspires a feeling of officiality to the document in the eyes of the viewer. This gives documents written in Courier a certain ability to influence the viewer that the words contained in the document are facts and statements rather than simply the words of another individual.
This ability to convey stronger meaning with a simple font change is a reflection of how we treat fonts as a whole, not just Courier. All fonts change how we perceive documents - Comic Sans for humor, scrawl for party or wedding invatations. Courier has a similar effect on the viewer, but instead of providing a sense of comedy or joy in the viwer, it commands their attention and assures them that the content held within the document is factual.
