Ad venture Time is a show that airs on cartoon network at 8pm on Mondays (as of the time this blog post was written). This places the target age group between 10 and 16, and reaching into the adult segment as the time frame is close to 10.

The appeal to me is in both the artistic style of the show and the playfulness of its social commentary.

The show is about a boy (Finn) and his dog (Jake) who go on adventures throughout the land of Ooo every day. The history of Finn, his parents, etc. are all left a mystery up until now in the show's plot line.

The social commentary of the show is how children see the world around them. In the screenshot above, we can see Finn's world - evil sign posts are attacking his friend, and he must save them (by beating them up with his sword in the scene that followed. This is a classic game of children - fighting trees and signs with sticks, and using their imaginations to create new worlds around them.

The artistic style is very unique in adventure time. The artists have created an entirely different type of animation, stepping away from realism and moving more toward the feeling of motion. Characters move their bodies in a way that is not based on joints, but rather emphasising the actual action of moving. This plays into the commentary directly, in that children typically do not think of the intricacies in movement, but rather the actual motion itself.
